There’s something about vintage silk scarves that completely changes outfits. Perhaps it’s the timeless and classic quality it has, or the versatility of their function. You can wear them as a neck scarf, or use it as a belt to make your look more original, or tying it around your wrist to make a unique bracelet. You can truly wear it however you want to wear it, there are no rules to silk scarves. I have a vivid memory of my grandmother wearing them whenever she thought her outfits were missing a pop of color, or a certain accessory. It instantly made her look much more sophisticated and polished, making her look glamorous, just like all grandmothers seem to be.
There’s something so sweet and special about the first autumn breeze – the way the air is slightly chilly and makes the burnt orange leaves fall from the trees. The sensation one gets when it starts getting dark at 5pm and the sunset is just a faint glimmer in the distance is unique to autumn; it calls for turtlenecks, oversized scarves, hot chocolate by the fire, and warm jazz tunes. There’s nothing better than getting ready for the first cold day after a warm and busy summer and feeling that refreshing draft tickle your skin.
There are so many textures that one can play with when it comes to clothing, that’s the amusing and electrifying part of styling outfits. This seems to be the new trend as well, as fashion designers this past fashion month have presented collections with materials such as velvet, leather, silk, patent, and suede. It’s fairly simple to incorporate a different fabric – like a statement patent skirt – in your closet than the plain old cotton or acrylic (although there’s nothing wrong with that), but why not shake it up a little? It’s definitely a fantastic way to make one’s outfit more dynamic and fun.
It’s stupefying how time flies. You watch it flash before your eyes, like a car on a speedy highway, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Sometimes it feels like nothing will slow down, although somehow you still feel like time can go by quicker, and sometimes you want it to. When time passes slowly, you want it to pass by quicker, and when time passes quickly, you want it to pass slower. It seems like a love-hate relationship, like there’s never an in-between for the two. Time is an illusion, just something to hold accountable for what happens in your life. Sometimes it feels like time takes control of you, rather than you taking control of time. To do the latter is quite simple: remember that nothing is set on stone and to take it slow because life is short. Take advantage of every second, every minute, and every hour. Nothing more, nothing less.
It’s finally summer, which means playing with fun accessories, textures, prints, and bold colors. At least for me that’s what I aim to do because summer is supposed to be a time to relax and frolic – something that I very much enjoy doing. I’m pretty versatile when it comes to outfit choices and I adapt a lot to my surroundings so usually during summer I like to wear statement pieces that are comfortable yet visually striking. This season also calls for experimenting with different pieces that you wouldn’t necessarily wear during winter, and essentially just having fun with what you wear.
