Winter Beauty Essentials

February 25, 2016

It seems quite fitting to write about beauty essentials since it’s fashion month but also because it’s winter and this season can be one of the harshest on one’s skin, especially that last one. If anyone is currently in New York City, you know what the weather has been particularly inconsistent. Luckily for me, it hasn’t been like the typical bitter-frost, bone-chilling winters that the US East Coast is known for, which I despise. Nonetheless, the drastic change in temperatures we’ve been experiencing here isn’t the best for maintaining your skin healthy and hydrated.

I’ll admit, sometimes I get lazy, and I know many people get lazy too. Winter is one of those seasons where you just want to curl up into a ball, drink cocoa, stay inside and watch Netflix. But, like the rest of the world, I do have a life and need to get out and brave the cold. Sometimes it feels like taking care of my skin and body is a long process, but it really isn’t. It doesn’t have to be a daunting task, it just has to become part of your routine, and this should change every season as your skin adapts to these changes.

Every winter, I make sure to keep my face hydrated – hydration is key. Cream is my best friend, and you can’t go wrong by over-hydrating your face (but refrain from doing so). Here are a few of my essentials that I’ve been using non-stop lately:

Chanel Précision Hydrating Mask: apply freely on skin before bed and after having washed your face. Usually you’re supposed to wash it off after but I’ve been leaving it on once or twice because it isn’t oily or sticky, it feels more like a very smooth cream. You can feel the hydration when you put this on, and it smells so good.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse: this is a dry oil which works well as a substitute for cream at night or during the day. Since it’s a dry oil, it’s not greasy nor super oily and gives a fresh glow when applied to skin before using makeup. It’s very handy because it’s multi-purpose, which means it’s great for hair, and also comes in small bottles which make it easy to slip into your bag for travel or day.

L’Occitaine (!): I grew up with this, so my shelf is full of L’Occitaine products. They never cease to please me because they’re accessible almost anywhere, they’re quite affordable, and their essentials are simply great. Honestly, this brand is a classic. Use the beurre de karité (pure organic shea butter) to put on chapped lips, cuticles, or any other part of the body that claims instant hydration. If you’re in need of a lovely hand cream, use the almond or rose – they smell like heaven!

Finally, top off your beauty routine with a nice touch of classic, nude nails from Marc Jacobs Beauty. It makes you look well-taken care of and sophisticated!

Tell me, what do you guys to take care of your skin during winter – I would love to know!
